In real estate, location is everything and this location overlooking the Potomac River is sublime. Except the for the invasive Phragmites grass which blocked the view of the river from the house. And the pounding waves eroding the unprotected shoreline. Helping to bring our rivers and marshes, streams and ponds, back to natural balance is one of the goals of Landis Garden Design. Our sustainable landscape design practices helped to control erosion, revitalize the shoreline and improve river views. The eradication of the invasive Phragmites australis, included application of Fish and Wildlife Service approved herbicide, and controlled burning. Re-introducing wetland grasses encouraged the growth of a native plant community, created a wetland buffer, and restored wildlife habitat which helps to protect the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
