The curves of the landscape on the site of this beautiful bungalow in the Palisades neighborhood, recreate the time and romance of the Arts and Crafts period. Not so romantic… hard pan, densely compacted soil that lacks porosity and creates huge run off problems for the neighbors. We replaced heavy clay soil with loads of compost and sand to create a soil structure that allows plants to grow and heavy rains to infiltrate. This sustainable landscape benefits from 1300 square feet of raingardens, bio swales and conservation landscapes that work together to absorb the stormwater from a 1.7” storm. 120 gallon rain barrels at the side and back of the home capture water that is used for irrigation. The native plant palette, holds up during all seasons, and reduces the homeowner’s watering and maintenance needs.
